Aims and Objectives of the Physical Education Department
- To teach the acquisition of skills.
- To develop physical literacy.
- To engender teamwork
- To develop spatial awareness.
- To improve students ability to co-operate.
- To
stimulate and develop students interest, enjoyment and enthusiasm in
sport and P.E. which will be carried through into their lives once
they have left school.
- To develop character and personality and to help develop self confidence through working as an individual and a group member.
- To develop problem solving skills and provide opportunities for creative thinking .
- To encourage an appreciation of the concept of fair play and sportsmanship.
- To develop and encourage leadership skills.
During Key Stage 3:
- Pupils increase expertise in their skills and techniques and learn how to apply them in different activities.
- They begin to understand what makes a performance effective and apply these principles to their own and others work.
- They start to take on a variety of roles such as leader or official.
Physical Education at Key Stage 4 is divided into Core P.E. and G.C.S.E. P.E.
- Core Physical Education:
- Students tackle more complex and demanding activities applying their knowledge of skills, techniques and effective performance.
- Pupils tackle a range of physical and intellectual activities.
- The
view they have of their skilfulness and physical competence gives them
the confidence to get involved in activity and exercise out of school
and in later life.
G.C.S.E. Physical Education
A large number of pupils extend their P.E. to examination level with excellent results.
