The ECB's Development staff within the Cricket Department has overall responsibility for developing cricket activity in schools and clubs in England and Wales.

The Cricket Development Managers (CDMs) and their County Boards are the mechanism to deliver these initiatives.

HOWZAT! animationPrimary and secondary schools, clubs, district cricket and facilities are all crucial elements of a framework to provide children with the opportunity to experience the game, as well as a pathway for the more talented.

Numerous activities and resources have been developed, or are being developed, for boys, girls, disabilities, teachers and coaches.

ECB unveiled the blueprint for cricket’s continued success and development with the launch of Building Partnerships in April 2005.

Cricket Roadshows

ECB Cricket Factory

Visit the ECB Cricket Factory Roadshow Tour website for dates and venue details - plus event reports, photo galleries and blogs!

ECB Cricket FactoryThe ECB Cricket Factory Roadshow Tour presents a new approach to engaging young people into the sport.

The Tour Rig provides a platform to allow young participants to perform a variety of cricket activities and challenge all the key basic skills: batting, bowling, throwing, catching and cricket related movement.

All the activities can be accessed by all participants from 4-18 years (including the parents!) and each challenge can be modified to suit each individual’s level of skill or cricket experience.

Supported by local ECB coaches, the aim is to give all participants a positive and fun experience that will encourage them to take up the sport, and provide them all with information relating to where they can go on to play and watch cricket in the future.

The ECB Cricket Factory Tour is a public demonstration of the new ECB Long Term Athlete Development process giving young people the opportunity to experience the game at the right level for their particular level of skill, providing a positive learning process from the playground to the Test arena.

ECB Cricket Factory

Activity Stations

The ECB Cricket Factory comprises four main components:

Tactical Batting Zone – Batting / Movement / Balance skill test
Decisions! Decisions! A quick single run, through the gap for four or a massive hit for six! Watch out though you might get caught! Step up to the wicket and face all the challenges of the opening batsman.

Fast Fielding Zone - Catching / Movement / Balance skill test
You’re standing in the slips. It’s that crucial moment, the chance is yours, watch the ball off the rebound net as you move to take that important catch to dismiss their best player.

Wicket Zone - Fielding / Throwing skill test
You’re in the outfield - you’ve raced to collect the ball - the batsmen are running between the wickets. Which option - the gloves of the wicket keeper or middle stump! You decide - make your throw!

Bowling Target Zone - Bowling / Accuracy / Movement skill test
Keep the batsman guessing. Bowling down into the zone through the target maze, get the stumps in your sights and test your accuracy.

Tour Rig

ECB Cricket FactoryThe ECB Cricket Factory Tour Rig utilises the Factory Eleven ‘Playsurround’. A flexible rig design that allows the 2007 Tour to visit a wide range of locations, both indoors and out, around England and Wales throughout this year!

From club outfields, school playgrounds, town centre market places to indoor retail centres the Tour, including a summer Beach Tour element across the south coast, will be taking cricket to a wide public audience throughout 2007 giving thousands of young people the opportunity to experience the fun and challenge of cricket in stimulating Activity Play Zones

Vodafone ECBImportantly, the rig can be very flexible, some occasions one or other of the external games can be removed allowing it to fit into a smaller area.

The ECB Cricket Factory tour is a non-profit making event, funded by the ECB and supported by Vodafone.
