Education and training
The ABAE Coach Education programme is being revised to bring it in line with the National Standards for Coaching. This is one of the objectives set out in the Whole Sport Plan and agreed with Sport England. All National Governing Bodies of sport are expected to undertake this process.
We are currently working with SkillsActiveUK (the Sector Skills Council for the Sport and Leisure Industry) and with SportsCoachUK to re-align our existing Coaching Awards with the 4 levels of the National Qualifications Framework. We are reviewing the content, assessment process and delivery mechanisms in order to offer a high quality and 'state of the art' service to the hundreds of volunteer coaches who are already in the system and those new coaches we need to qualify if the vision for our sport set out in our development plans is to be realised.
Our first priority is the Full Coach qualification since this is an essential basis for running a successful club, bringing new boxers into the sport and giving them the chance to achieve their potential.
We are also about to start working in partnership with Scotland and Wales to produce a UK coach education and assessment framework to fulfil the criteria for inclusion in the UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC).
While this process is ongoing, the existing coach education system will remain in effect. This will mean that the Full Coach qualification (Parts 1 and 2) will continue to be delivered at regional level and Senior and Advanced Coaches will be trained and assessed on a national basis.
