Teachers - CPD for Athletics
Teachers: Elevating Athletics
A warm welcome to the Education area. It is our intent to make this the most informative website for teachers looking for resources to teach and deliver athletics in primary and secondary schools.
For the last 10 months we have been rolling out our Elevating Athletics Continuing Professional Development (CPD) awareness courses, and are fast approaching 3000 teachers who have been trained in its use. So far, the feedback from these has been very positive, with teachers finding many new, challenging and enjoyable activities to use in their lessons. Additional feedback, particularly from those within the primary sector, is that the core activities contained in the packs of running, jumping and throwing can be used in a wider multi-skill context. So if you haven’t come across this course yet, visit the Elevating Athletics website to find out more.
The CPD courses are being run through out the UK: full details of how to organise a course are contained in the pdfs below, or you can call Henry Hammond on 0870 998 6436 to find out if a course is being delivered near you.
In addition, we are developing a couple of exciting projects that will support the delivery and assessment of athletics within schools. These are being piloted and will be available in the near future. One of these, Virtual Athletics, which will be ready by September 07, will allow all schools to take part in on-line competitions. This will be of particular interest to those schools with transport difficulties or in rural locations. The site, which is under development, can be viewed at www.virtualathleticsleague.co.uk. If you are interested in this approach to increasing participation, please let us know by using the contact form at the bottom of this page.
We regard all these resources as being in a state of development, so if you feel there is something missing or fails to meet the requirements, or if you are looking for a resource that doesn’t appear to exist, use the feedback form below to contact us and we will endeavour to help you.
We believe that with 2012 approaching fast we are faced with the challenge of changing some of stale and traditional approaches to teaching our sport. In this respect these are exciting times. We are confident that we can help teachers succeed in enthusing pupils of all ages and abilities to find, and participate in, events that they find fun and which allow them to achieve success, at whatever level.
